At Harvesting Change, we use creative, sustainable, and accessible farming methods that reflect both the needs of our land and the values of our mission. Our approach combines practical innovation with environmental care, all while providing hands-on learning opportunities for people of all ages.

Above-Ground Growing: Smart Solutions for Clay Soil

Our land has dense clay soil, which makes traditional in-ground vegetable gardening difficult. Rather than fight nature, we’ve embraced systems that work with the land and allow our plants to thrive.

Gravity-Fed Garden Beds

We use a gravity-fed irrigation system that delivers water to our plants efficiently—without pumps or electricity. This eco-friendly system is a great fit for off-grid setups and teaches water conservation in action.

Container Gardening for Tomatoes & More

We grow tomatoes, herbs, and greens in plant pots and grow bags, which gives us better control over soil quality and drainage. These containers are moveable, accessible, and great for teaching gardening skills in small or urban spaces.

Raised Beds for Educational Access

Our raised garden beds make it easy for kids, seniors, and people with mobility challenges to plant and harvest without strain. We fill them with nutrient-rich compost made right here on the farm or locally sourced.

Ground Plantings That Support Biodiversity

While most of our food crops are grown above ground, we make use of our native clay soil to support pollinators and local wildlife.

Wildflowers, Native Grasses & Medicinal Herbs

We plant wildflowers, drought-tolerant grasses, and hardy herbs directly into the ground. These plants:

🦋 Attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects

🦋 Improve soil health and reduce erosion

🦋 Support habitat restoration and natural beauty

Coming Soon: A Greenhouse for Year-Round Learning

We’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be adding our first 8′ x 10′ greenhouse to extend our growing season and offer year-round learning opportunities. This greenhouse will allow us to:

🌹Start seedlings early in the spring

🌹Grow cold-sensitive crops into late fall

🌹Create a weather-protected space for hands-on workshops

With your support, we hope to add a second greenhouse during our first year as a nonprofitYour donations directly help us grow more food, host more classes, and provide a space where people can connect through gardening—no matter the season.

Our Core Values

We farm with intention and community in mind:

♻️ Low waste: Composting plant scraps and animal bedding

💧Low water use: Using mulch, gravity systems, and native plants

🐝Habitat care: Avoiding chemicals and protecting pollinator spaces

🌷Educational access: Creating safe, inclusive growing spaces for everyone
